AFA Speaks on the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act

This week AFA President Lynn Jacobson presented to the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture and Forestry in regards to Bill C-74, Part 5 as it pertains to the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act.  Lynn spoke to a number of issues farmers face in relation to the carbon tax, and touched on the following:
  • a desire to see an exemption of all farm fuels used in agriculture production from the carbon levy
  • the increasing cost of inputs along the supply chain
  • the impact of carbon pricing on producer competitiveness
  • the need for a consistent, federal approach to level the playing field for all Canadian farmers
  • agriculture as a big part of the solution to climate change
  • a continued need for research an reinvestment in the adoption of new technologies
